Pros: Wi-Fi compatible, Good for email, GPS, Camera/video quality, Great screen, Web browsing, Good keypad, upgradable, will soon have android support
Cons: Operating system, Volume level
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1(i) is an good phone, with enough features and looks to warrent a second glance. But this phone is capable of alot more than just what is offered.
At stock, lets have a quick look at its features;
Camera:
At 3MP this isnt top of the range, infact it is now a little under standard on smart phones, but the performance make up for it. The automatic macro and focus make sure your pictures look crisp every time.
Even in low-light situations i was able to get a good picture without much pixelation.
Screen:
With a screensize of only 3 inchs you may wonder why you would need 800x480 (wvga) resolution, but watching videos, looking at those photos you just snapped, playing games, or browsing the internet are just that little more real with the big numbers. The screen is remarkably crisp and clear even at only 65k colours there is minimal differences between this and a 'millions' colours screen.
Panels:
This feature is one you either love or hate. Sure you can change to one you use more often and make it your home screen (such as the Facebook or Google panels) but i would much rather a clean interface i could customise to my hearts content.
Keyboard:
The keyboard is lovely, responsive, and doesnt feel cramped, even with my longer fingers.
Looks:
The phone is beautiful, although it is STARTING to show its age.
Browsing:
Internet sites should only look this good on a PC, but the xperia denies them the right to gloat by equaling the quality of pages.
Add-ons like Mobile Flash 9 will make your phone as feature rich when browsing as your pc.
Cons:
The Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system LOOKS old, the settings menus, file explorer and various other tasks show just how much of this OS was based off windows 98, although its easy to update your phone with a new rom, none of the official releases will support the upgrades that have come since this phones inception.
Another con is the arrow keys, left, right, and down and great, but the up key will have you constantly pressing the trackpad accidently.
Overall it is a wonderful phone that with a few programs installed bring out the full functionallity that this phone SHOULD have had at stock.
